Kraft Suspense Theatre; Crisis; RTV - Retro Television Network

Episodes of Kraft Suspense Theatre have been running on the RTV network since 2008. The words "Kraft" or "Suspense Theatre" do not appear in the opening credits (or anywhere else). Instead, the word "Crisis" appears as the title of the show.

The show was presented in syndication during the 1970's as "Crisis." I don't know why the title was changed or why RTV does not use the original name.

RTV has shown only about 45 or so of the episodes during that period. I have seen no evidence of more than a dozen of the episodes during the past two years, while others have been repeated many times. It is possible that only certain episodes were syndicated and received the name change 40 years ago - and that only those episodes are running on RTV.

This is just idle speculation, but I wanted to provide at least some possible explanation (or acknowledgment of the name difference) for those who might see the show on RTV.

  1. All the Shows do exist - the only one not in the syndication packages (Either as "Suspense Theater" or "Crisis") is the Two-parter as it was later released theatrically.

RTV doesn't have all the episode for a plain simple fact - they don't want to spend the money for master-tapes. The current owners of RTV didn't receive all the master-tapes to most of the shows they air when Equity Media Holdings Corporation severed the partnership.

Equity is holding them for ransom, litterally,as well as owning Universal-NBC back rerun fees. So, RTV only ended up with some of the episodes and only slowly getting a few episodes across the board here and there.

The story is "Not all the episodes are cleared for Broadcast" is Bull. I've spoken to several people involved with the affiliates.

RTV's other issue, not running what they have in the proper order is due to the way they program the automated system.

  2. RTV hasn't shown Kraft Suspense Theatre in my area for several months. I get RTV thru WFMZ 46.2 – Philadelphia. The current schedule is at http://myretrotv.com/prog_schedules/WFMZ.pdf. However, the national feed (see http://myretrotv.com/prog_schedules/RTV-National-Eastern.pdf) also does not list KST. Is KST currently airing anywhere?

  3. The only episodes withheld from syndication are "The Case Against Paul Ryker" (October 10-17, 1963) {which also served as the pilot for the 1966 "COURT-MARTIAL" series, also co-starring Peter Graves and Bradford Dillman}, which was re-edited into the 1968 theatrical feature "Sergeant Ryker"-- and "In Darkness, Waiting" (January 14-21, 1965), also re-edited into a 1969 theatrical film, "Strategy of Terror" [MCA always got a "little extra" (and a little more revenue) out of their short-lived TV dramas, unsold pilots and two-part episodes by recutting them into overseas theatrical movies, with occasional domestic releases as well].
